Here is a list of moving tips for the big day!

Looking for some moving packing tips that will make the trip less of a hassle? Choose from some of the following and save time and energy on the big day:

  • Start the packing process early and do a little bit at a time.
  • Pack books and heavy items in small boxes. Weight adds up quickly and big boxes are hard to lift and maneuver. Keep boxes under 50 pounds whenever possible. Most moving companies offer dollies to help lift heavy objects.
  • Write room names on the boxes with a marker so you can take them directly to the place where they will eventually go. Packing one room at a time can make unloading much easier on moving day.
  • Make sure you wrap fragile items well in bubble wrap and mark boxes "fragile" so they are treated gently. Try to keep these boxes toward the top of the stack so they don't get smashed.
  • Heavy blankets can be used to drape over furniture to help protect it during the move.
  • Keep important items such as medication and paperwork available for moving day.
  • Have a scissors or box knife handy for when you need to start unpacking everything.
How can I save money on moving supplies?

So what will you need to buy in order to pack up your things and how can you get yourself some cheap moving supplies or even free ones? Smart moving goes beyond mere boxes and tape. Here are some tips to consider that can really help cut your moving costs:
  • One of the best pieces of advice is to begin packing early so that you can avoid purchasing too many moving supplies. If you do a little at a time you'll know how much you need!
  • Save newspapers for a while prior to your move. They make for good packing material.
  • Ask everyone you know to save you boxes. If you know a local store owner, ask them too.
  • Watch newspapers for discounts on moving supplies.
  • Look for coupons that will help get you a cheap truck rental.
  • Ask family/friends to help you move.
  • Clean house before packing and get rid of absolutely everything you don't need. You'll have less to bring with you.
